Pee Wee Picasso, Inc. was founded in 2004 by Amanda Dalton and Courtney Milburn. The two artists and friends wanted to share their passion for the arts with children. When Amanda and Courtney met in early 2003, they discovered their mutual desire to see children express themselves through creative means. They began teaching a single After School Art class and Pee Wee Picasso was born. Word quickly spread through McKinney about the art teaching duo and demand for more classes was met when they starting offering additional classes at the McKinney Art House. In 2006, Courtney, who lived in Dallas, decided to branch out and share PWP with her community. Today, PWP is growing in the Dallas/Richardson Community.
Although Courtney has a B. S. in Counseling, she has always favored her artistic side. She left the field of counseling in 1999 to concentrate on developing her artistic abilities. Her love for the art of mosaics grew and she began Grout Girl Mosaics. She sold her work at area shows, select retail boutiques, and by commission. She also worked with Dallas schools to direct class projects and auction items. After meeting Amanda in 2003, she began the development of PWP.
Courtney and her husband live in the Brentfield area of North Dallas with their two sons. Courtney graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Studies and Counseling. She continues to serve the company’s
mission today.
Amanda has worked as a certified art teacher in Texas since1998. Walker Elementary in McKinney, Texas named her Teacher of the Year in 2000. From 2001 to 2004, Amanda founded and directed Art for Orphans, a non–profit organization that teaches art to orphans and terminally ill children in Romania. She and Courtney developed and implemented the PWP program together from it’s inception until 2006 when Amanda decided to return attention to Art for Orphans, teaching, and her family. She remains an important part of PWP today as an advisor.
Amanda is also a jeweler, sculptor and painter. She and her husband live in McKinney, Texas with their son and Golden Retriever Duke. Amanda holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Art History also from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Education from Texas A&M. She continues to teach elementary art in McKinney.
Kristi joined the Pee Wee family in 2007. Her enthusiasm and love for art and children is contagious. Kristi’s energy infects both her students and their parents. She teaches our Mommy + Me and Mini Masters classes. A native of San Francisco, she is slowly adapting to our Texas heat and we hope she stays for a long, long time. Kristi has a Bachelor of Art in Anthropology and minor in Fine Art from Lewis and Clark. She attained her teaching certification from San Francisco State University. Before starting her family she taught for several years at the primary level. Kristi lives in the Prestonwood Area of North Dallas with her husband and their two boys.
From a very early age, Zoë has sought to find beauty in everything, and communicate that beauty through art. Growing up in Louisiana, she did not realize what waited for her in Dallas; for it was there that she discovered what art truly meant to her.
Currently attending the University of Texas at Dallas, Zoë is studying art in all its forms. Delighting in sculpture, drawing, photography, building, and most specifically painting, you can say her artistic side is well traveled. She can always be found at home or at school, dreaming or working on one of her recent ideas.
Learning what art truly does for the soul, Zoë realized that more people should be encouraged to create art of their own. It was at this juncture where she chanced upon Pee Wee Picasso and the great idea behind it and found a place she belonged.
